20% of the water resources of North Khorasan have the capacity to produce caviar
The director of fisheries of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: 20% of the province’s water resources have the capacity to produce caviar and shrimp.
Jamshid Grivani added: Sturgeon is raised in fresh and relatively warm waters, for which studies are needed in the province.
He continued: Studies and implementation of this matter are necessary in order to diversify aquaculture in the province.
Referring to the existence of saline waters in the Kal-e-Shor region of Esfarayen, Grivani stated: Due to the existence of tiny crabs called Artia mia, this region also has the capacity to grow crocodiles.
He said: Considering that the waters in this area do not have access to open waters, there is no concern for breeding and releasing these animals.
He mentioned that one of the purposes of raising this animal is to use its skin for products such as bags and shoes. He explained: Due to the limited fisheries credits, not enough studies have been conducted to implement these projects in the province.
He mentioned the per capita consumption of fish in the country as 7.51 kg and said: This amount is 4.9 kg in this province.
The director of fisheries of North Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization, stating that the production of hot fish is 86 tons and cold water fish is 682 tons this year, emphasized: the need of the province is more than the amount of this product enters the province annually.
