The director of agricultural affairs of Jihad Keshavarzi of Yazd province, referring to the 10% increase in onion production in this province, announced: Yazdi farmers harvested 23.5 thousand tons of onions from their farms this year.
While announcing this news, Mohammad Ali Hatamizadeh pointed out: Onion is a plant compatible with tropical and cold climates that is also cultivated in most parts of the world, and while it is a product of the cool seasons of the year, it is cultivated and harvested in the province in the second half of the year. He stated that most of the cities in the province are active in the field of onion cultivation, he said: Abarkooh, Ashkzar and Khatam cities are the most important producers of local white and yellow onion cultivars in the province.
Regarding the characteristics of onions produced in the province, the director of horticulture affairs of Jihad-e-Keshavarzi province said: Onions produced in the province cannot be stored due to their crisp and juicy nature, so they can be sent to markets outside the province, mainly Khuzestan and Fars, immediately after harvest.
It is worth mentioning that this type of onion is a favorite of restaurants due to its sweetness and juiciness and usually has its own audience, although it has a much lower price compared to red onions and is sold in markets outside the province up to 1200 Tomans per kilo. .
Hossein Musharraf, the head of the province’s Union of Squares and Leeks, referring to the 26 percent increase in the price of red onions, said: The price of red onions has recently risen from 1,700 tomans to 2,300 tomans and has grown by almost 26 percent.
He stated that this price increase is due to the much easier storage of red onions than white and yellow onions, which has a significant role in regulating the market of vegetable sellers, while white and yellow onions are still sold at a fixed rate of 1550 Tomans in Yazd squares. arrives .
Musharraf, the province supplying onions to the province, despite the good production of this product in the province, said: Mashhad, Tabriz and Shiraz are the most important onion producers in the country, respectively, and the red onions of these cities are currently offered in the squares of Yazd province.
