Deputy Minister of Crop Production Improvement of Khuzestan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: Rice cultivation will start from the second half of June this year and it is predicted that 60,000 hectares of the province’s lands will be cultivated with this crop.

Mohammad Ghaseminejad stated: The types of rice that are cultivated in Khuzestan include Amol, Daniel, Shafaq, Kadous, Pouya, non-Najafi Pakota and local rice such as Champa and local Anbarbo.

He added: The area under rice cultivation last year was 58,025 hectares, which has increased by 9% compared to the 2010 crop year. The yield of rice in 1390 was 40 thousand 724 kg per hectare and 274 thousand 88 tons of paddy and 178 thousand 157 tons of white rice were produced from the cultivated area.

Deputy Minister of Crop Production Improvement of Khuzestan Jihad Agricultural Organization, referring to the services provided to rice farmers in the province, said: employing 50 agricultural graduates to provide technical advice, introducing new cultivars on the high grain crop cycle, cultivating farmers such as rice , Kadous, dynamic and preparation and distribution of required fertilizers, seeds are among the services provided to farmers in Khuzestan.

Ghaseminejad stated: Rice is cultivated in two ways by direct and seedling in the province and the main areas of rice cultivation in the province, Izeh, Baghmalek and Ramhormoz counties are by seed and in other areas by direct sowing.

He also informed about the cultivation of sub-plastic cucumber in 6 thousand hectares of agricultural lands of the province in the current crop year and said: it is predicted that 190 thousand tons of cultivated lands will be harvested and offered to the market for consumption.

Khuzestan Jihad Agricultural Organization Deputy for Plant Production Improvement added: Cucumber harvesting operations will continue until the end of June and the cities of Shushtar, Shousha, Ahvaz, Omidieh and Ramhormoz are among the cities where plastic cucumber has been planted. 30 tons of cucumber are harvested from each hectare.

Qaseminejad reminded: Of course, cucumber cultivation is done in the southern cities of the province from the end of December and in the northern cities until mid-December.
