The director of Shadegan Agricultural Jihad Office said: Drought and water salinity in the city caused a 15% reduction in production this year.

Jabbar Hamadi, referring to the beginning of the date harvest operation from the palm trees of this city, stated: The date harvest has been started from Shadegan groves for about 20 days and the harvesting work by the farmers will continue until the middle of October.

He added: The issue of water salinity and drought in Shadegan city caused us to face a decrease in the issue of dates produced in the city in terms of quantity and quality, and in this regard, we need the cooperation of date packing workshops.

The director of Shadegan Agricultural Jihad Office stated: Drought and water salinity situation in the city caused us to reduce production by about 15% this year. Every year, the city’s date production is about 50,000 tons, but this year we optimistically predict that we will be able to produce only about 35,000 to 40,000 tons of dates.

Matroudi continued: the area of palm trees in Shadegan is about 13 thousand and 500 hectares, of which about 11 thousand and 250 hectares are fertile palm trees and about 2250 hectares are palm trees that have not reached the fruiting stage.

The director of the Shadegan Agricultural Jihad Office pointed out: The problem of water shortage caused the quality of dates produced in Shadegan to decrease sharply in terms of quality. The farms that reached the water this year and were somehow upstream produced first-class dates, but other groves downstream that did not have access to water produced lower-quality dates.
