15% share of barberry processing in South Khorasan

The director of conversion and food industries of Jihad Agricultural Organization of South Khorasan said: out of 70,000 tons of barberry production, the capacity of conversion industries in packaging and processing is 45%, of which 15% is processing and 30% is packaging.

Ahmad Beiks stated: The strategic products of South Khorasan include; Saffron, barberry, jujube and medicinal plants.

He said that about 60 tons of saffron is produced annually in the province, adding: We do not have a problem in the field of saffron in terms of packaging.

The director of conversion and food industries of the South Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization, stating that the issue of saffron processing is very important, clarified: Extracting or producing syrup is one of the processing parts.

Beiks stated that in this part, 10% of saffron, which is equivalent to about 6 and a half tons, is processed, and said: 70,000 tons of barberry are produced annually in the province, of which we issued about 40 licenses for processing and packaging units.

Bix said that 12 other units also work professionally, adding: out of 70,000 tons of barberry production, the capacity of the conversion industry in packaging and processing is 45%, of which 15% is processing and 30% is packaging.

Referring to the jujube product, he clarified: about six thousand tons of jujube is produced annually in the province and we do not have any particular problem in packaging this product, but there is no special jujube packaging factory in the province.

The director of conversion and food industries of the South Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization stated: About one percent of the product is processed, and in this regard, a processing factory is operating in Khosf.

Beaks continued: Five jujube processing plants are being established, which have more than 60% physical progress and will be operational by the end of the year.
