Ali Asghar Zinananloo announced this news: the area under hazelnut cultivation in the country is 18,000 hectares, of which over 15,000 tons are produced annually.
He added: The yield of this product in the country is 1,200 kg per hectare and the highest amount of production with more than 80% of the area under cultivation is related to Gilan province, especially Rudsar city and Eshkorat region.
Zinanlu added: The Deputy Minister of Horticulture has envisaged extensive programs to develop the area under hazelnut cultivation in the country; This is because it is a crop that can be easily grown in humid areas, while it is a commercial crop that grows in sloping lands to prevent severe soil erosion and the formation of floods and heavy rains.
For this purpose, the development of cultivation of this crop in sloping lands, especially Golestan province, is one of the main programs for the development of hazelnuts in the country.
He added: In order to meet the need for hazelnut development in the country, research on this product is currently being carried out at the Astara research station. In addition, there are currently 25 hazelnut cultivars and genotypes at the Kamal Shahr research station in Karaj.
The head of the horticultural research department, announcing that 8 top hazelnut genotype cultivars have been introduced during the last year and a half, said: With the cooperation of a Russian professor in several research projects over three 6-month periods, in addition to training Iranian researchers, 25 Hazelnut genotype cultivar 8 top genotype cultivars were selected and introduced to the executive sector for propagation and use in the development of hazelnut cultivation in the country, and further research on these 8 cultivars is still underway.
Pointing out that Iran is the eighth largest producer of hazelnuts in the world, he said: Turkey is the first producer of hazelnuts in the world with 500,000 tons and Italy with 89,000 tons is the second largest producer of hazelnuts in the world. In our country, Gilan, Mazandaran and Golestan are the main producers of this product. Are.
Zinanloo reminded in the end: Currently, 117 horticultural research projects are underway in the country, 8 of which are dedicated to hazelnut crop.
