20% increase in Damask rose harvest in Mehriz
Director of Mehriz Jihad-e-Agriculture said: Due to the favorable weather conditions and spring rains, the harvest of Damask rose from the gardens of the central part and the suburbs of this city increased by 20% compared to the same period last year.
Mohammad Jafari added: Damask rose harvest in Mehriz city starts every year from the beginning of May and continues until mid-June on 20 hectares of gardens in this city.
He added: On average, three tons of flowers are harvested from each hectare, and due to the low water demand of this plant, farmers welcome this product well.
The official said that about one kilogram of essential oil is obtained from every 10 tons of fresh flowers, adding: the amount of rose production in this region is estimated at 270,000 liters per year.
Quoting the public relations of Jihad-e-Keshavarzi of Mehriz city, Jafari stated in the end: Damask rose, in addition to being used for unique perfume and rose production, is also used as a food seasoning along with curd, yogurt and tea.
