20% increase in fig harvest in Mehriz, Yazd province

Deputy of Jihad Agricultural Management of Mehriz city in Yazd province said: fig harvest from 50 hectares of orchards in this city has increased by 20% compared to last year.
Mohammad Hossein Hakimi mentioned the main reason for the increase in harvest of this crop as suitable weather conditions due to early rains this year and added: on average, 2.5 tons of crop is harvested from each hectare of gardens in the city and sent to the market.
He called the most important cultivars of this crop in Mehriz city pepper, green, Tafti, Mahallati, Emadi and Siah and said: the fig harvest in Mehriz starts from the end of July and ends in the middle of October, during which about 600 families these days They make a living.
Hakimi stated that most of the fig orchards in Mehriz are located on the outskirts of the city, adding that a significant part of Mehriz’s produce is consumed fresh and some is sold in the center of the province.
In the end, the deputy of Mehriz Jihad-e-Agriculture said that the cultivation of fig trees next to other trees in the orchards, the continuation of drought in the region, the occurrence of frost and the high cost of harvesting were the most important problems of Mehriz producers.
