20% increase in sesame harvest in North Khorasan

The director of agriculture of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization announced a 20% increase in sesame harvest in this province.
Engineer Farzad Adalatian mentioned the reason for this as an increase in the area under cultivation and suitable spring rainfall. He added: This year, about 750 tons of sesame oil seeds were harvested from the fields of this province.
The area under cultivation of this crop in the current crop year is 1930 hectares.
Adalatian mentioned the main areas of sesame oil cultivation as Maneh, Samolghan and Bojnourd counties and said: Sesame oil seed in this province is mostly used for medicine, production of chocolate, sweets and nuts and to a limited extent for lubrication.
The director of agriculture of North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization stated that the average production of sesame oil seeds in this province is low and said: Considering that sesame is grown in rainfed lands, lack of rainfall will reduce the production of this species.
According to him, last year, 550 tons of sesame oil seeds were harvested from 1,500 hectares of drylands in the province.
