30% increase in hazelnut production in Rudsar
The director of Rudsar Agricultural Jihad said: this year, hazelnut production has increased by 30% compared to last year.
Ehsanullah Mushtaq said: Rudsar is one of the hazelnut production centers of the country and it is predicted that more than ten thousand tons of hazelnuts will be produced in Rudsar this year.
Noting that hazelnut growers are currently harvesting the crop, he added: Damage to hazelnut orchards had reduced the production of this crop last year. Fortunately, this problem did not exist this year and this has led to a 30% increase in hazelnut production in Rudsar. .
Mushtaq continued: High insurance tariffs and low compensation are the main problems of Rudsar hazelnut growers.
He pointed out that the area under cultivation of Rudsar orchards is 12,800 hectares, and specified: Hazelnut market in Rudsar city is suitable and is offered raw and roasted in local markets of this city.
The director of Rudsar Jihad-e-Agriculture said: in addition to city consumption, hazelnuts produced in Rudsar are exported to other cities of Gilan and even other provinces.
He added: This year, hazelnuts have a very high quality and are sold in the markets for 15,000 Tomans per kilogram.
Habib Jahansaz, deputy director of crop production improvement of Gilan Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization, said: Gilan, with 17,000 hectares of hazelnut orchards, is the largest producer of this product in the country and the fourth country in the world in terms of cultivated area.
He pointed out that the harvest situation from hazelnut orchards is good, adding: Hazelnut harvest begins every year in early September from Gilan orchards and continues until the end of this month.
He predicted: Gilani gardeners will harvest about 19,000 tons of hazelnuts this year.
Gilan Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization Deputy for Plant Production Improvement added: Gilan gardeners earn 231 billion tomans by harvesting this amount of hazelnuts.
Habib Jahansaz, pointing out that Gilan produces 80% of the country’s hazelnuts, added: Rudsar city has 13,000 hectares of hazelnut orchards and this city produces 60% of the country’s hazelnuts.
He specified: Last year, about 400 tons of Gilan hazelnuts were exported to European countries.
