The head of the Jihad Agriculture Organization of Hamadan province announced the improvement of walnut orchards and said: 3000 hectares of walnut orchards in Hamadan province will be improved.
Mansour Rezvani-Jalal, stating that in this project, new and frost-resistant cultivars will be transplanted in the orchards, added: Currently, training courses on transplanting walnut trees have been held and this project will be implemented from the beginning of 1397, when the transplanting season begins. He pointed out that the Chandler cultivar was tested as a pilot in Tuyserkan last year, adding that the production efficiency of this cultivar is high and it is a late flowering variety that was tested in a small area of Tuyserkan orchards last year.
Rezvani-Jalal stated that more than 18,000 hectares of orchards in the province are under walnut cultivation, adding that there is a production capacity of 40,000 to 50,000 tons of walnuts from this area in the province.
The head of the Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization of Hamedan province reminded: Unfortunately, last year 50 to 70% of the walnut orchards in the province suffered from frost and 38,000 tons of walnuts produced in the province were destroyed.
