50% reduction in sturgeon production in Golestan
In order to reproduce sturgeon every year, sturgeon breeding begins in October in the waters of the Caspian Sea.
Seyyed Javad Quds Alavi stated: After catching, these breeders will be given to the sturgeon breeding centers of the province so that they can breed more sturgeon breeders.
He pointed out: for the proper reproduction of sturgeon, it is necessary that the caught producers be male and female species, and at the same time, fertility readiness be provided.
Male and female sturgeon breeding centers also prepare for faster reproduction.
He said: By injecting special hormones, the sexual maturation time of these fish will be accelerated and the chance of fertility will increase.
The Director General of the Fisheries Department of Golestan Province continued: The catch of sturgeon breeders in the waters of Golestan Province since the beginning of October has been accompanied by a decrease compared to the same period last year.
Stormy seas and severe cold have reduced the catch of these fish.
Quds Alavi stated: In addition, every year we see a decrease in stocks of sturgeon in the Caspian Sea, which is another reason for the decline in sturgeon production this year.
He stated: According to the statistics provided by the reproduction centers of Golestan province, from the beginning of October
So far, 21 sturgeon have been caught in the Caspian Sea, which is a 50% decrease compared to the same period last year.
The Director General of the Fisheries Department of Golestan Province continued his statements: The main species that is caught among other species of sturgeon in the waters of Golestan is Qara Borun.
The official in Golestan province, pointing out that the sturgeon species of elephant fish is also caught in the waters of the province, said: In Golestan province, the only sturgeon breeding center of Shahid Marjani is engaged in the reproduction of the elephant sturgeon species.
He further reminded: Last year, 137 pieces of sturgeon were caught, with which one million and 280 thousand larvae of sturgeon were produced in the sturgeon breeding centers of the province.
The Director General of the Fisheries Department of Golestan Province acknowledged: It is expected that a smaller number of sturgeon will be caught from the Caspian Sea this year to produce larvae.
The official in Golestan province noted: Unfortunately, a number of illegal fishermen are currently catching sturgeon in the Caspian Sea.
He stressed the need to prevent the activities of illegal fishermen who are engaged in sturgeon fishing, and said: This will have a significant impact on the reconstruction of sturgeon stocks in the Caspian Sea.
In the end, Quds Alavi expressed his hope: By forming a strategic sturgeon headquarters in Golestan province, we can take more effective measures to restore the stocks of such fish and prevent the activities of illegal fishermen in Golestan waters.
