52% of green tea leaves are first class

The head of the country’s tea organization said: 52% of alfalfa tea leaves this year are first grade and the rest are second grade.

Habib Jahansaz said: 2 billion and 400 million tomans of the claims of northern tea growers were transferred to their accounts today.

He added: by depositing this amount, 258 billion and 400 million tomans, equivalent to 80% of the price of green leaves of tea growers in Gilan and Mazandaran, have been paid so far.

Jahansaz continued: So far, tea growers have picked 118,726 tons of green tea leaves worth 325 billion tomans from their gardens, which is 10% more than the same period last year.

He said: 56,855 tons, equivalent to 52% of these alfalfa tea leaves are first grade and the rest are second grade.

The head of the Tea Organization stated that the autumn harvest of green tea leaves from the gardens of Gilan and Mazandaran will continue until the end of October, adding: This year, 26,749 tons of dry tea were produced in the tea factories of Gilan and Mazandaran.

He pointed out that green tea leaves are harvested in three stages of spring, summer and autumn, and specified: 90% of the country’s tea is produced in Gilan.
