5560 tons of dates are produced annually in Yazd province

At present, 3580 hectares of Yazd orchards are under date cultivation, of which 2660 hectares of fertile area with a yield of 2100 kg per hectare, 5560 tons of crop is harvested annually.

Seyyed Abolfazl Vakili, director of horticulture of Yazd Jihad Agricultural Organization, mentioned Tabas, Bafgh and Ardakan cities as the main date production areas in Yazd province and added: Zahedi has been promoted especially in recent years.

He stated that the value of produced dates amounted to 10 billion and 700 million Rials and, emphasizing the compatibility of palms with water shortage, salinity and poor soil, described the quality development of production as necessary with the continuation of the plan to improve the groves.

The director of horticulture of Yazd Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization also pointed to the prosperity of various handicrafts in date-growing areas for the production of products such as fans, paddles and hats and said that this sector needs more support and said: The Jihad Agricultural Organization of the province is ready for any cooperation with applicants and investors in the private and cooperative sectors in this regard.
