8% increase in peanut production on the eve of Ashrafieh
The director of Ashrafieh Astana Agricultural Jihad said: Peanut harvest will officially start in September. Peanut is one of the 5 important agricultural products of Gilan.
According to the Gilan Agricultural Jihad, most of this product, equivalent to more than 80% of Iran’s peanuts, is produced in the east of the province and in the city of Astana Ashrafieh, which has alluvial soil suitable for almond cultivation.
According to the statistics of this organization, about 5000 almonds workers of the province are cultivating almonds in 2800 hectares of Astana lands.
Goodrooz Kamalpour, director of Ashrafieh Astana Agricultural Jihad, said that the harvest of peanuts in this city has been done on a case-by-case basis, adding that the official harvest of peanuts in Astana will begin in early September.
He said that the first harvest was done by Khanjani, a farmer from Astana, and that he had started growing almonds on April 25. This year, we anticipate an 8.3 increase in peanut production in Astana, he said.
The director of Ashrafieh Astana Agricultural Jihad stated that this year the production of 6 tons of fresh cocoons per hectare will reach 6.5 tons of fresh cocoons, and specified: Has been effective.
Kamalpour said: Another important measure taken is to prevent tangled crops, and almond farmers have been encouraged to cultivate more in rows, which has led to an increase in peanut production in Astana orchards.
Noting that half of the peanut fields are currently being plastered, he continued: Plastering in the peanut orchards provides the fields with calcium and prevents the peanut pods from rotting.
The director of Ashrafieh Astana Agricultural Jihad named pre-vegetative and post-vegetative herbicides as other measures and added: Increased mechanized peanut cultivation is another factor that has increased peanut production in Astana.
Kamalpour added: It is predicted that more than 15,000 tons of fresh silk cocoons will be harvested in 2507 hectares of Astana peanut orchards.
