85% of handmade carpet products are exported
The CEO of the Handmade Carpet Union says that cheap and sustainable currency and employment are the most important features of handmade carpets, and the government should not ignore handmade carpets in order to achieve employment goals.
Abdullah Bahrami stated: After Borjam and with the lifting of sanctions, the export of Iranian carpets to foreign countries had a good effect on the currency appreciation of the carpet industry, so that carpet exports increased from 290 million in 1394 to more than 330 million dollars in 11 months of 2016.
He added: According to the central slogan of the year and the characteristics of handmade carpets and the government’s efforts to improve international relations, the export of $ 500 million in 2017 will be an achievable goal.
He noted that handmade carpets have characteristics that are consistent with the basics of resistance economics: the use of domestic resources, raw materials, designers, weavers, masters, export-oriented production and sustainable and low-cost employment are the characteristics and components of handmade carpets.
The CEO of the Handmade Carpet Cooperative Union, stating that more than 85% of Iran’s handmade carpet products are exported, said: Handmade carpets can achieve many of the government’s employment goals through currency and extensive exports.
Referring to the naming of the year 1396 as the resistance economy, he said: Handmade carpets are one of the obvious examples of the resistance economy due to the existence of domestic resources and export-oriented production with high added value, and according to the Supreme Leader and the demands of the people Employment will be the main focus of the Sixth Plan and the executive policies of the Twelfth Government.
In the end, he said that in order to organize the production and employment of the cooperative sector, it should achieve its worthy position and share, adding that cooperatives, carpets and handicrafts have grown significantly in this sector and there is a reliable potential in the cooperative. Funding will create sustainable and significant employment.
