90% of the country’s barberry is supplied from South Khorasan
The head of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of South Khorasan Province said:
South Khorasan is the only province whose main product is barberry and more than 90% of the country’s barberry is supplied from this province.
Tanaki of South Khorasan region, added:
According to statistics, 13,000 hectares of land in the province are under barberry cultivation, of which 27% are in Birjand,
48% in Qaen, 17% in Darmian and 9% in Sarbisheh.
He said that one of the reasons for the drop in barberry prices was its early corruption and added:
Currently, a permit has been issued for the construction of two large barberry processing and packaging factories in Birjand and Qaen
with a capacity of 5,000 tons each, and construction is underway.
Tanaki further referred to the issue of drought and added:
The average rainfall so far this year has been 65 mm, the provincial average should be at least 145 mm and this amount is about
half of the provincial average, obviously given the droughts of recent years should be in Saved water consumption.
He said:
the rate of water evaporation in South Khorasan province is 3400 mm, which requires farmers to pay more attention to the issue
of water transfer through pipes.
