90% reduction in onion prices on the farm

90% reduction in onion prices on the farm

The selling price of onions on the farm has dropped by more than 90 percent in the past two months, and farmers believe it is being smuggled into the market, but the head of the Plant Protection Organization said no permits had been issued for importing onions. The consignment of onion smuggling has not been provided to this organization, but the Anti-Trafficking Headquarters is responsible for dealing with and destroying smuggled onions if it is discovered.

In the last weeks of last year, the price of each kilogram of onion in the consumer market had reached about 6000 Tomans, which of course was about 3000 Tomans from the farmer, but now the price of this product has reached about 2000 Tomans per kilogram in the consumer market and 300 to 400 kg Tomans are sold in agricultural fields.

But farmers believe that increasing the production and supply of onions in the market does not reduce its price, and the smuggling and supply of unlicensed onions imported from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and China has reduced prices.

Mohammad Ali Baghestani Meybodi, head of the country’s Plant Protection Organization, said: No license has been issued for the import of onions so far, and due to its saturation in the market and the adequacy of domestic production, no license will be issued for import.

He added: So far, no report has been submitted to the Plant Protection Organization about the discovery of cargo smuggled onions in the country, but if foreign onions are seen in the foreign market, the smuggling headquarters is obliged to deal with the smugglers of this product, foreign onions. Destroy it without permission and smuggling like foreign fruits.

Although the current price of 2000 Tomans for onions in the consumer market does not seem very reasonable, but the purchase price of this product from farmers has decreased by about 90% compared to previous months, and this shows that not only farmers do not benefit from this price, but also sell this Agricultural products and people’s losses go to the pockets of some brokers and intermediaries who have no role in production, and the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture, as the custodian of market regulation, is obliged to change the current situation of agricultural products in favor of farmers and consumers.
