95% reduction in walnut production in Khorramdareh city

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Khorramdareh city said: in the last crop season, walnut production in Khorramdareh city was reduced by 95% due to frost.
Fereydoun Davoodi, stating that Khorramdareh is the center of walnut production in the province, explained: The non-resistance of some walnut cultivars to cold is the main reason for the significant reduction in production of this crop in the last crop season.
Emphasizing on improving walnut orchards in this city and replacing cold-resistant cultivars, he added: With the efforts of experts, cold-resistant walnut trees in the region have been identified and stamped, and the results of the study will be announced in the spring of next year.
The official added: Farmers can provide conditions to increase the production of this product by replacing cold-resistant trees.
He pointed out that to deal with possible frost in the city’s gardens, antifreeze and hormone spraying operations have been carried out in some areas, noting that the results of these measures will be determined in the next crop season and if the desired results are obtained, these measures in A wider level will be done.
Davoodi called the identification of high-quality cultivars and the study of the quality of measures taken to strengthen orchards against cold and all kinds of falls as a matter of time and said: The establishment of walnut orchards for the first time in the province has been done to support production in this area.
He also referred to the harvest of 34 thousand tons of grapes from the vineyards of the city, said: This year, due to the heat of the vineyards, grape harvest has decreased.
