Enameling is an art that can also be a housework
Maryam Attar Shoushtari, a potter from Ahvaz, said that pottery enameling is 2,400 years old. Tiles have been discovered in the city of Susa that date back to 400 BC, he said. We also started pottery enameling in Khuzestan two years ago to protect this ancient art and our interest in it.
He added: In all my travels throughout Iran, I first tried to know the handicrafts of that place. At the same time, I was interested in economic activity to fill my free time.
Attar Shoushtari stated: Before working in the field of enameling, I was a housewife. After I started teaching this art, I realized that it could be a good home-based job for housewives.
This enamel worker from Ahvazi stated: For this reason, we offered the cultural heritage of Malasani city to hold enamel training classes to empower women, after which two people started independent activities and enameling training.
Maryam Attar Shoushtari stated: One of the problems of this work is that it is not supported by the people. Unfortunately, our people, although they live in the land of love and art, do not know some of their handicrafts. That’s why we have to wait for a workshop or exhibition to sell our products.
