Mehdi Shirzad, CEO of one of the largest companies producing and exporting handmade carpets, said about the problems facing the country’s handmade carpet industry: Today, the number has dropped to 7 million.

Shirzad went on to analyze the main reasons for the lack of prosperity in the carpet weaving industry and said: In recent years, the amount of government support for carpet weavers has gradually decreased, as well as the reduction of foreign trade and the domestic market approach to machine carpet consumption. The good hands of the national handcuffs will fall.

Asked whether the high cost of Iranian carpets has made them unpopular, he said: The most important reason for the decline in handmade carpets is not the price of carpets, but the main problem is that our product design is old and tasteful. The younger generation does not like this type of design.

Shirzad went on to explain more reasons for the problems of handmade carpets and said: The National Carpet Center of Iran receives an annual budget to pay 70% of the costs of participating in foreign exhibitions, but unfortunately these amounts are long overdue and A small amount is paid.

He also stressed that the private sector needs support, adding that taxes and duties levied on the dollar resulting from the export of carpets or returned carpets are other reasons for the decline in carpet exports in the country.
