The United States buys the most carpets from Iran
The advantages of the carpet industry are so great that we can have the most employment and income generation and expand exports to target markets, said the director of the National Union of Handmade Carpet Cooperatives.
Abdullah Bahrami, stating that the sanctions hit the Iranian carpet and handicraft industry irreparably, said: These sanctions were such that we lost the US markets, which owned 35% of the Iranian carpet and bought more from Iran.
He considered 90% of the carpet industry as export and foreign exchange and said: When we have the potential of such an industry, we should pay special attention to this sector in the country’s budgets in order to get the most employment and income from this advantage.
According to him, due to the lack of attention to the handmade carpet industry, the revenue of this sector has decreased significantly every year, so that out of two million carpet weavers in 1980, only one million weavers are working in this industry today and the rest are attracted to false jobs. have became.
The head of the Handicrafts and Carpets Commission of the Iranian Chamber of Cooperatives, referring to the problems of exporting carpets and handicrafts, noted: Part of these problems are related to structural weaknesses and the other part is related to financing, and so far not enough funds have been allocated to this sector.
Bahrami said: Unfortunately, our carpet exports are traditional and we have acted traditionally in the field of marketing and marketing, and this has been effective in reducing carpet exports.
The official in charge of the cooperative said that we have a high diversity in the cost of products, adding: Iranian carpets are outstanding in terms of quantity and quality and variety in the whole world, and because of this feature we must increase our competitiveness in target markets.
