Europe is the main market for Iranian handmade carpets
The head of the Tehran Handmade Carpet Sellers Union said: Europe is the main market for Iranian handmade carpets and 100% of old handmade carpets are exported, but due to the high price of carpets, sales in the domestic market have decreased and we can not reach our real position in the export market.
Mojtaba Araghchi described the most important challenge of this class as the high price of carpets and said: 80% of the price of handmade carpets belongs to wages and the price of this product has increased and decreased due to rising wages.
He stated that with the increase in the price of carpets, it is natural that the purchase price decreases: due to the high price of handmade carpets, the domestic consumer does not have the purchasing power; Therefore, it turns to machine-made carpets and rugs that it is better for the government to present a plan to increase employment and production of handmade carpets.
All obsolete handmade carpets are exported
The head of the Tehran Handmade Carpet Sellers Union, stating that handmade carpets are exempt from VAT, added: One hundred percent of handmade carpets are exported because the carpets that are bought must be exported after they become obsolete; For example, the carpets used in the shrine of Imam Reza (AS) are usually used after six months and must be issued.
Araqchi continued: Old handmade carpets in the past were more expensive than new carpets due to the fact that they were exported, but today this practice has changed.
The head of the Tehran Handmade Carpet Sellers Union explained: Handmade carpets are used after being used for a while and people sell them, on the other hand, considering that it wants to be exported to European countries, these carpets are exported.
Europe, the main market for Iranian handmade carpets
He said that about 25 to 30 percent of handmade carpets were exported to the United States, adding: Of course, we have not exported to this country for several years due to sanctions, and other countries have been replaced in this regard. At present, China and Russia are in a good position and most of their exports are to European countries.
Our country can meet any of the world’s needs for handmade carpets, but the price of carpets is an important issue in this regard, which will not be achieved, Araqchi said.
The head of the Tehran Handmade Carpet Sellers Union also said that handmade carpets are mainly woven in villages and houses, adding that the price varies according to the type of carpet, and the finer the texture, the higher the price.
Carpets are for domestic use
He also said about the carpets: Carpets are for domestic consumption and it can be said that they are not bought in European countries.
Araghchi emphasized: If the price of carpet production in Iran decreases, exports and supply in export markets will improve.
