Woven kilims dating back centuries
A culture like kilim weaving is, in fact, a response to the basic needs of villagers and nomads who have been searching for dry tents, furnished tents and warmer sleeping equipment. These weaves are the result of the imagination and the product of the technical mastery of people who have had a humble life and unfavorable conditions.
What we know today as kilims is an achievement that has been the result of centuries of hard work in rural and Illyrian weaving stables. The hardships of the seasonal alleys, the toil of ranching, herding, or the troubled life in the desert. Following the efforts of nomads and nomads, handicrafts were created that have usefulness in consumption, ease of transportation, and especially unique beauty and excellence.
For many years, kilim has been produced in the villages of Islamabad, Turkabad and the towns of Shahreza city in two-sided, simple, embossed forms with various designs such as Makhdakhl, Gilank, Kikam Velangj, and among these, the role of Langj has more fans.
The texture of the kilim with the love of tribal identity
Kilim weaving in Shahreza, because it is woven with Qashqai pattern, is similar to Semirom and Shiraz kilims and different from other regions of Iran.
According to one of the kilim weavers in Shahreza, kilim weaving has long played an important role in promoting the status of women and their families in marriage and has been a major part of the dowry as well as a source of income for the husband. Therefore, acquiring skills in the art of kilim weaving and learning it has been an essential task for the young bride. Each of the kilims, created with a special pride, a sense of conscientiousness and love, reflects family traditions and tribal identities, and is inspired by the tastes of the future bride.
Zahra Naderian said: Glim weaving is a good opportunity for forgiveness and charity according to the instructions of the Quran. The kilims that the rich dedicate to the mosques not only decorate the floor of the mosques in beautiful colors, but also provide warm and comfortable mats for the worshipers. With the prevalence of endowment of such property in Islamic countries, mosques have become a suitable space for the maintenance of these substrates.
Naderian pointed out that the weaving industry, over time, from a daily need, has reached such delicate and luxurious products, said: Today, all kinds of weaves are used only for beauty.
Weaving new kilims for sale has become a thriving industry,he said. Today, the kilim market confuses those who are interested in it. In this market, you can find traditional samples produced in the villages along with new commercial kilims that have been woven with different quality and prices. In studying the beauty and distinctive features of kilim, it is possible to find out what precious antiques are and show racial identity, as well as new hand-woven fabrics with chemical dyes that have a special charm.
This Shahrezaei kilim weaver also spoke about the powerful designs and colors of kilims and their undeniable effect on the human spirit and added: If kilim is used in home decorations, in addition to providing happiness to the family, it can lead to the growth and development of this original art. Our country, which is rooted in our cultural civilization, should help a lot.
Twisting the thread into a thin thread
Also, Mina Mohammadi, one of the weavers of kilim weaving, said: to produce kilim yarn, cotton and wool yarns are often used, and in exceptional cases, silk is used. In knitting method of weaving, in addition to warp and weft, thin weft yarn is used and the weft passes through the warp and thin weft in a twisted manner and is beaten with a knitting comb.
Mohammadi added: for weaving a kilim, Dar with vertical, horizontal, Tabrizi and rotating types, raw materials of yarn, wool and imagination and weaver’s mind are needed.
This tasteful nomadic producer stated: Cheleh yarn is made of cotton with different thicknesses and in some villages wool is used instead of cotton.
Mohammadi reminded that wool for kilim weaving should also be washed, spun and dyed and then used as cream.
He said: Weaving is the most important stage of weaving a kilim, and weaving yarns should be wrapped parallel to each other and at a certain distance on the hanger, and a design with several colors in different sizes should be woven.
Creating a kilim texture design with pure minds
Mohammadi described plain weaving, somak, slit, without slit, kilimcheh, sajadeh, javal, khorjin, sajadeh and juli, as types of Shahreza kilims and added: the design and pattern of kilims in this area is mental and the weaver does not refer to its map.
He mentioned the linear design, the inclusive design, the simple floor design, the striped design, the shirki pich design, the brick design and the Kurdish tablecloth design as among the famous kilim designs.
The art of kilim weaving is fading among the nomads
Professor Gholamreza Tan Saz, one of the sellers and repairers of hand-woven nomads, also said: Today, despite a lot of work for weaving kilims, its price is not economical for nomads, and this original Iranian and nomadic art will be forgotten in the near future.
Tan Saz added: Unfortunately, with the increase in the price of gasoline, buyers and lovers of this art are less likely to go to the old Shahreza market and buy kilims.
He said: Nobody values the original Iranian art and I am afraid that like the art of hand-woven carpets, its texture will fade among the tribes and people, and this requires special attention from the authorities.
The bodybuilder continued: Kilim has a longer history than carpets in our country, and carpets have emerged as a result of the evolution of kilim weaving over many centuries.
To recognize a good kilim, it must be wrapped and pressed
The bodybuilder stated: The kilims of each region have special characteristics in terms of design and color and are known according to its design and colors.
This kilim seller stated: Fixed hanger is the most basic and Tabrizi hanger is the most common hanger, and in the revolving hanger, the length of the threads can be adjusted to the length of the kilim.
He added: the color of a good kilim should be constant in the face of light and washing, and if it is not good, if the moisture reaches it, it will change color. To identify a good kilim, you need to wrap it and press it to measure its strength, and low-weave kilims can be easily pulled and unfolded.
The bodybuilder stated: The lighter the kilim, the better it is because its texture is made of finer yarn and fabric. Rural weavers usually weave black goat hair fringe on the outer edges of the kilim, which helps the kilim to withstand.
He stated: Shahreza kilims are mostly black, lacquer, crimson and pea colors and color stability, light weight and quality are the characteristics of Shahreza kilims. Most tourists buy it.
The kilim is used to decorate the walls of the house, the flooring around the carpets of the house, the entrance pendant and the pad.
