The treasurer of Shiraz Chamber of Commerce and vice president of Shiraz Hand-woven Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Union said: Due to improper management of fleece exports, India has taken over the Gabbeh export market that was once in the possession of Fars (Shiraz) province and has taken this comparative advantage from us.

Mohammad Ali Dideroshan said in this regard: The reason for the quality of Gabbeh in Fars province (Shiraz) is the type of wool produced in this province, because there is no sample of Fars sheep wool anywhere in the world.

He continued: Considering that today Indians have easy access to the fleece market of Fars province (Shiraz), they buy this product and transport it to their country through Bandar Abbas without any problem.

Emphasizing that Gabbeh is still one of the comparative advantages of Fars (Shiraz) exports, the economic activist expressed concern about the loss of this comparative advantage: Now Gabbeh’s cost price in India is half the price due to its low wage rate. It is in Fars (Shiraz), which means that the price per meter of Gabbeh in the world markets is $ 200 and the price of its Indian sample is 95 to 110 dollars, and this has destroyed the export markets of Gabbeh Iran or in other words Gabbeh Fars market (Shiraz). .

Dideh Roshan reminded: Indian Gabbehs have good texture quality and are not less than Farsi Gabbehs (Shiraz) in terms of quality, and considering the cost price of Indian Gabbehs, the situation of Gabbeh Fars market is getting worse day by day.

Criticizing the export policies of Fars (Shiraz), he stated: The export of raw materials does not have enough added value for us. Once upon a time, the export of fleece lights was off, but today the traders of this trade do their job with ease and easily across water borders.  Export the raw product to eliminate the comparative advantages of Iran’s exports.

Dideh Roshan reminded that once 180 thousand people were active in the field of handmade carpets in Fars (Shiraz), and said: now this number has reached 40 thousand people.

The Vice President of the Shiraz Hand-Woven Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Union, stating that the membership cards of 40 carpet exporters in Fars province have been revoked and only 30 exporters are still active in this field, stressed the need for the authorities to consider measures in this regard.

Undoubtedly, by predicting customs tariffs, the cost of exporting raw products such as wool can be increased so that Fars can regain the Gabbeh and hand-woven carpet market.
