The Deputy Minister of Traditional Arts and Handicrafts of the country, stating that the infrastructure of handicrafts in Iran has been destroyed, stressed the need to revive this infrastructure.

Bahman Namvar Motlagh on the sidelines of the opening of the National Exhibition of Handicrafts in North Khorasan, said: Although Iran has a lot of potential in the field of handicrafts, diversity in production and educated workforce, due to the wrong policies in the past, these capacities are still well exploited I did not.

According to him, Iran is the third largest exporter of handicrafts in the world, while Iran should be the third largest exporter of handicrafts. The Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of the country has decided to upgrade the position of this industry and its products and bring it to a decent condition.

He said that the government, parliament and executive decision-making bodies should pay serious attention to handicrafts. Provincial managers must also have specific short-term, long-term and long-term plans for the revival and development of activities and products in the field of handicrafts. The Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization also supports these programs.

Namvar Motlagh continued: This organization for the revival and development of this art-industry in the country, after 10 years, for the first time in the fiscal year 1392, provided facilities and producers of this industry with 30 billion Tomans to stabilize the current position of this industry in the country. He said: Although this industry is identity-building, employment-generating and currency-rich, the share of Iran’s foreign exchange turnover in this field in the world is not favorable, and in recent decades, countries such as Thailand and Morocco have overtaken Iran. According to official statistics, $ 150 million worth of handicraft products are exported annually from Iran to world markets; This currency turnover is not favorable.

Referring to the water crisis in the country’s villages, the Deputy Minister of Handicrafts emphasized: In order to maintain the rural economy, alternative economic activities should be planned in the villages; Handicrafts can be the best option to keep the villagers in their place of residence.

Namvar Motlagh added: North Khorasan officials should make more efforts to develop activities, take serious action to benefit from the second round of facilities for artisans, and send their artisans’ files to the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
