Construction of saffron onion treasury in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province

Azam Sheikh Samani added: Due to the development of saffron cultivation and the welcome of farmers for this product, the saffron onion treasury has been established in the province and from next year the province’s need to supply onions to other provinces will be met.

These experts of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Agricultural Jihad Organization stated: This treasury has been built on a 6-hectare open-air land with a tonnage of more than 11 tons of onions per hectare.

Referring to the high price of saffron onions, he added: Until now, farmers used to supply saffron onions from Khorasan provinces, and to provide onions, cheap agricultural jihad facilities will be provided to farmers.

Sheikh Samani added: This year, about one ton of saffron has been harvested from the cultivated area of the province.

Emphasizing that saffron is cultivated from the end of August to the beginning of September, he said: next year’s saffron harvest will be done in late October and the amount of irrigation of saffron fields depends on the amount of rainfall in autumn and winter.

Emphasizing that 6 to 7 years is the useful life of saffron bulbs in a field, he said: After this period, farmers will move the bulbs out of the field and move them to another place for higher yields.
