Development of Hazelnut Gene Bank as a Priority of Ardabil University Jihad
The head of the University Jihad in Ardabil province announced the preservation of genetic resources and the development of the hazelnut gene bank in this province.
Mehran Ochi Ardabili stated: Preservation of native hazelnuts in Iran with emphasis on the aspects of revitalization, optimal exploitation, development and research of native genotypes, etc. has been prioritized by the University Jihad of Ardabil Branch.
Referring to the achievements of the University Jihad in the field of hazelnuts, he noted: Explaining the position of hazelnuts in compiling a comprehensive scientific map of the country, initial selection of superior domestic genotypes based on important morphological traits and diversity of selected genotypes with molecular markers in recent years has taken.
The head of Ardabil University Jihad announced the creation of a collection with selected genotypes and important cultivars in different research stations of the province, especially Fandaghloo and Moghan stations, and added: compatibility and stability assessment based on quantitative and qualitative traits as well as cold-resistant cultivars as cases Studies have been considered.
Ochi Ardabili pointed to the study and determination of species of self-incompatibility and their relationship with the selection of compatible domestic and foreign cultivars with hazelnut cultivation points in Ardabil province and stated: Creating and developing a garden using early cultivars and reviewing and achieving a suitable method of cultivating We have the selected one on the agenda.
He added: During this period, the study of soil, water and nutrition of hazelnuts in the region, the study of pests and diseases of hazelnuts and the preservation of genetic resources and the development of the hazelnut gene bank have been considered as basic and accessible priorities.
A member of the Administrative Council of Ardabil Province pointed to the completed research projects of the University Jihad of Ardabil Province in this field and stated: The world is evolving.
Ochi Ardabili introduced the identification of areas prone to economic cultivation of hazelnuts in the province, the study of tissue culture of three hazelnut cultivars and the compatibility of foreign hazelnut cultivars in Ardabil province as approved research projects implemented by the University Jihad of Ardabil province.
He said: We have prioritized the identification of native hazelnut genotypes of Iran, the study of the genotypic diversity of the natural reserve and the development and presentation of a pilot plan for the restoration and exploitation, development and research of Ardabil province as approved research projects.
