The condition of Gilan hazelnut orchards is good

The director of horticulture affairs of Gilan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: this year the situation of hazelnuts in the province is good and hazelnut growers are harvesting this product.

Hojjat Ali Akbarnejad said: hazelnut harvest is underway in Gilan orchards and this year the condition of Gilan hazelnut orchards is good.

He pointed out that it is expected that up to 21,000 tons of hazelnuts will be harvested from Gilan orchards this year, and the exact amount will be announced at the end of September after the final harvest of this crop.

Ali Akbarnejad continued: most of Gilan hazelnuts are produced in Rudsar and in total this city is the center of hazelnut production in the country and more than 85% of the country’s hazelnuts are produced in Rudsar.

He pointed out: In addition to provincial consumption, Gilan hazelnuts are sold in the markets of other provinces of the country, especially neighboring provinces.

The director of horticulture affairs of Gilan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: 5950 Gilan families are active in hazelnut production and in addition to Rudsar, most of Gilan hazelnut farmers are active in Amlash, Siahkal Talesh, Astara and Rudbar.

Akbarnejad continued: in addition to consuming nuts, Gilan hazelnut is used in confectionery and chocolate making and is also used in the pharmaceutical industry.
