Akbarzadeh, referring to the special place of peanut products in the cultural, social and economic aspects of the life of the people of this region, continued: About 5,000 Gilani farmers are active in the production of peanuts.
He pointed out: Astana Ashrafieh city is the second largest producer of peanuts in the country and the center for determining the price, trade and accumulation of technological industries of this product in Iran.
Emphasizing that a decent income is the main reason for the development of crop cultivation in the province and peanut cultivation should be done alternately with the cultivation of other crops, he specified: The good profitability of the peanut crop has caused many farmers to cultivate this crop. But the non-observance of peanut cultivation by farmers causes problems in the cultivation of this crop, including the spread of various pathogenic fungi, which ultimately to the detriment of farmers themselves, and it is recommended that farmers observe crop rotation.
On the threshold of Ashrafieh, there are 200 traditional peanut processing workshops and eight factories, two of which are equipped with modern and up-to-date equipment.
With the aim of increasing the quantity and quality of the product, research on 180 different cultivars in the province has been carried out for the past five years with the help of the Agricultural Research Center.
Harvesting of peanuts on the eve of Ashrafieh begins in September of each year and ends by mid-October at the latest, and at this time of the year, the produced peanuts are usually processed and roasted.
