Harvesting more than 1000 tons of walnuts in Yazd

The director of horticulture of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Yazd province announced the harvest of 1,170 tons of walnuts from the orchards of the province.
Seyed Jamal Sajjadipour, said: There are 1,765 hectares of walnut orchards in Yazd province, from which more than 1,170 tons of walnuts are harvested this year.
He named Taft city with 1,400 hectares of cultivated area as the main walnut production center of this province and mentioned Mehriz, Khatam and Bahabad districts as other production areas of this product.
The director of horticulture of Yazd Jihad Agricultural Organization described the province’s walnut cultivars as native, stony and paper.
Sajjadipour recommended to the exploiters of the province to insure the orchards, to use modern feeding methods, to use drip irrigation methods and to standardize the orchards.
The director of horticulture of Yazd Jihad Agricultural Organization said: there are 10,900 hectares of almond orchards in the province and it is predicted that 948 tons of crops will be harvested from this area.
He added: Due to the persistence of the drought phenomenon and the occurrence of winter and spring frosts, the harvest has decreased significantly compared to last year.
Sajjadipour stated: Gardeners of Yazd, in order to deal with such conditions, in addition to crop insurance, should put the use of scientific methods in agriculture and the method of drip irrigation in the forefront of their work.
