Horticulture director of Jihad Agriculture Organization of Kermanshah province said: walnut harvest has started from the gardens of Kermanshah province and will continue until the end of October.
Engineer Mansour Ahmadi announced the area of ​​walnut orchards in the province as about 15,000 hectares and said: of this amount, about 9,800 hectares are fertile and the rest are infertile. He added: Walnut has the highest area under cultivation among horticultural products in the province.
He said: Among the cities of the province, Kermanshah city with 3536 hectares and Sahneh city with 2442 hectares have the highest level of walnut orchards in the province and in fact these two cities have about 40% of walnut orchards in the province.
Ahmadi announced last year the production of walnuts in the province more than 35 thousand and 500 tons and added: this year in cold cities and low parts of some other cities due to spring frosts, the crop and even walnut trees have been damaged, which in Kangavar and Songhar cities. It is severe.
He added: In some other areas of the province, including Rijab, due to the high temperature in summer, the crop of walnut orchards has been damaged and in total, it is predicted that this year’s production of walnuts in the province will be 60% of last year’s production.
Ahmadi stated: Most of the walnuts produced in the province are consumed in the province itself and part of it is exported to other provinces.
Referring to the walnut orchards development plan of the province, he said: it is planned to add about two thousand hectares to the walnut orchards of the province in the fifth development plan.
