Beginning of walnut harvest in Hamedan
The director of horticulture of Hamedan Jihad Agricultural Organization announced the beginning of walnut harvest in this province.
Houshang Karami added: It is predicted that about 23,000 tons of walnuts with dry skin will be harvested this year, which is a decrease of 3% compared to last year.
Karami said that the main reasons for the decrease in walnut production were severe winter cold, late spring cold and drought and added: Currently, 14 hectares of agricultural lands in the province are dedicated to the cultivation of gado, which is the third largest area under cultivation in the country.
He stated: the walnut orchards of the province are a collection of different genotypes that have caused a product of the same quality not to be harvested. In the last five years, the implementation of the transplanted walnut program has begun.
He stated: only 640 hectares of walnut orchards in the province are under irrigation.
