24% increase in walnut production in North Khorasan
The director of horticulture of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: the production of walnuts from the orchards of this province has increased by 24%.
Haidar Namvar stated that the area of walnut orchards in this province is 2,500 hectares: more than 4,200 tons of walnuts have been harvested from this area.
He added: Last year, 3,400 tons of walnuts were harvested from the walnut orchards of this province.
Namvar said that most of the walnut orchards in this province belong to Farooj, Shirvan and Bojnourd counties.
The horticulture director of the North Khorasan Jihad Agricultural Organization stated: Due to the maintenance problem, gardeners in this province collect walnuts earlier and before they are fully ripe.
He said that 80 to 90 percent of the walnut orchards in this province have been collected, adding: If the walnut crop is harvested after ripening and at the right time, it will have a higher quality.
