Walnut production increased in Rudsar
Ehsanullah Moshtaq, director of Rudsar Jihad-e-Agriculture, stating that Rudsar is one of the walnut production hubs in the province, said: the walnut growers of this city are currently harvesting.
He added: This year is the year of walnut orchards in Rudsar and it is predicted that we will see a 60% increase in walnut production in this city.
Last year, the walnut orchards in the city were damaged due to frost, but fortunately this year we did not see these incidents, Mushtaq said.
He specified: the exact amount of walnut production in Rudsar will be announced after the final harvest of this product.
Jahansaz, Gilan Jihad-e-Keshavarzi deputy for crop production improvement, also said: walnut harvest has started in Rudbar, Amlash, Siahkal, Talesh and Rudsar counties, the production centers of this product in Gilan.
He added: It is predicted that 6,000 tons of walnuts worth about 1,200 billion rials will be harvested from 3,761 hectares of scattered gardens in Gilan. Gilan has 37,600 walnut farmers. Harvesting of this product starts every year from the beginning of September and continues until November. Walnuts are called colostrum in Gilaki dialect.
