Turkmen felt is one of the most beautiful and unique handicrafts
The Master of Archeology of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department of Mazandaran Province has studied the subject of color in the Turkmen felts of the villages along the Great Turkmen Wall during a project. Mohadeseh Mansouri has stated at the beginning of this research: Throughout history, human beings have needed textures, clothing, and undergarments to protect themselves from the cold and climate change, and kilims, felts, and similar items over time from a simple, purely practical device. They have become tools for decoration. Felt is one of the substrates that in addition to its special physical properties and moisture absorption and its useful application in the mind of the felt weaver artist, has provided a basis for the flourishing of color and pattern. Turkmen felt is one of the hand-woven fabrics of Iran, which in terms of shape and color richness can be considered as one of the most beautiful and unique handicrafts.
Proper use of index shapes and placement of pure colors together are among the characteristics of Turkmen felt. Forms and colors that each have a special meaning for Turkmen men and women and are taken from the original and rich Turkmen culture in the Gorgan plain.
The original Turkmen motifs are repetitive. Geometric and sometimes spiral forms, along with bright colors that are all obtained from natural materials, have conveyed specific Turkmen concepts from the beginning to the present. Behind the simplicity and purity of forms and colors can be found the cultural richness of Turkmen.
