Gardeners harvest barberry with branches

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi Zirkuh advised the gardeners of the city: to prevent the damage caused by the possible change of weather conditions to the barberry crop, cut it with a branch and then dry it in the health courts.

Alireza Bani Asadi, in the work of Zirkuh Water, Agriculture and Natural Resources Group, mentioned the amount of dry barberry crop this year as 3,600 tons and the area under cultivation as 3,000 hectares.

He added: Iran is the largest producer of barberry in world trade and South Khorasan is the main producer of this product, this province is at the top not only in terms of production but also in terms of buying and selling puffed barberry.

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi Zirkuh said: it is predicted that 16 thousand and 500 tons of barberry products worth one thousand and 567 billion Rials will be harvested from 14 thousand and 228 hectares of fertile orchards in the current crop year by 30 thousand farmers.

Banyasadi, pointing out that Ghaenat city is at the top with 4,056 hectares of barberry orchards, added: Intermediaries buy 28,000 Rials per kilogram of barberry at the production site from gardeners.

He continued: At present, non-oily barberry is sold in Birjand market for 380,000 Rials per kilogram.

Banyasadi reported the existence of 670 water sources in Zirkuh, from which 4,138 liters of water are extracted every second, of which 346 aqueducts, 198 springs and the rest of the wells are among the water resources of the city.

He continued: Five of the city’s aqueducts have dried up, of which two have been rehabilitated and exploited by farmers this year.

The director of Zirkuh Agricultural Jihad mentioned the purchase of 1,700 tons of wheat in excess of farmers’ needs at a guaranteed price and the distribution of 38 tractors and 242 tillers as other activities.
