The governor of South Khorasan said: 98% of the country’s barberry is produced in this region.
Ghahraman Rashid visited the barberry orchards of the province in 1390 in Darmian city, stating that barberry is one of the strategic products of South Khorasan, said: the best quality is related to barberry in South Khorasan, which is produced in 4 cities of Ghaen, Sarbisheh, Birjand and Darmian.
He said that last year we succeeded in implementing the project of improving the quality and health certificate of saffron in some villages of Ghaen city as a pilot, adding: the implementation of this project, in addition to improving the quality of products, increased its price by 30% That is supposed to be.
Rashid continued: this plan in relation to barberry will be implemented this year and is expected to create 50% added value in this product.
The governor of South Khorasan, pointing out that the livelihood of more than 50,000 families of the province’s population is provided by barberry, added: At the National Barberry and Jujube Conference held last year, it was identified that there are problems in this area that mediation is one of the most important They were the ones who had to make serious efforts to eliminate them.
Rashid, pointing out that currently about 14,000 tons of barberry products are produced in the province, said: about 10% of it is exported and the rest is used within the province, which should be implemented to increase exports.
He said that measures have been taken in the field of processing and exporting barberry, adding that these measures are only 10% of the work and there is still a lot of work to be done in this field, and appropriate measures will be taken this year.
The governor of South Khorasan, referring to the necessary information and training on the proper production of barberry to farmers, added: So far, good training has been provided by the Barberry and Jujube Center of the province, but this training is not enough and more serious measures should be taken in this regard.
Rashid announced the province’s barberry exports to European countries for the first time this year and said: This action will be done for the first time in the country in December of this year in small and hygienic packages.
He considered the countries of Central Asia, Europe and the Persian Gulf countries as a good market for barberry in the province and specified: in addition to exporting barberry to Europe this year with the cooperation of the National Barberry and Jujube Center, this product is used in other fruit and vegetable fields of other provinces. Will be available to customers in packages of 500 and 1000 grams.
The governor of South Khorasan stated: by carrying out a plan to improve the quality of barberry products, in addition to arranging barberry from the branches in a better and completely hygienic way, it will also increase the price of barberry.
Rashid considered the construction of health warehouses for drying barberry as one of the important projects of the working group for the development of the province’s agricultural sector in order to support farmers and added: In this regard, facilities will be provided to farmers.
He added: With the planned planning that will be done, we are determined to take more serious measures with the cooperation of relevant executive bodies and the participation and cooperation of dear farmers in order to improve productivity and increase the added value of barberry in the province.
The governor of South Khorasan, referring to the collection of barberry processing factories in the province, said: The factories in this field do not have the quality of the current product, and considering that agriculture is the center of the province’s development, more serious planning efforts should be made to establish conversion, complementary and food industries. be done.
Rashid called Darmian the second largest barberry producing city in the province and added: In this regard, special attention will be paid to the farmers of Darmian city so that the livelihood and hope of the youth of this region to stay in the villages and prevent migration to cities will be better. .
