The head of horticulture of Qasr Shirin agricultural jihad management predicted that 692.5 tons of dates would be harvested from the palm trees of this city this year.

Engineer Iraj Bahrami said that the area of ​​palm trees in Qasr Shirin city is 472 hectares and said: Of this amount, 400 hectares are seedlings and the rest are fertile.

Zahedi, Ishrsi, Azraq, Khazravi and Jafari are the main date cultivars in this city, said Bahrami, stating that the harvest of Qasr Shirin dates will start in October.

He estimated the average yield per hectare of Qasr Shirin palms to be eight to 10 tons and said: The amount of crop depends on the number of palms, for example, a maximum of 60 kg is harvested from each Zahedi palm and up to 400 kg from each Ishrshi palm.

Referring to the destruction of part of the province’s palm trees in the imposed war, Bahrami said, If these palm trees had not been destroyed, there would be more than a thousand hectares of palm trees in this city today.

He considered the climatic conditions of Qasr Shirin city suitable for planting palm trees.

Most of the dates in Qasr Shirin orchards are consumed in other parts of the province or outside the province, Bahrami said.

Regarding the existence of packaging industries in this city for production dates, the head of horticulture of Qasr Shirin agricultural jihad management said: Currently, most of the city’s date palms are in the form of seedlings and date production in this city has not reached the point where we can create packaging industries.

Referring to the date palm development program in the city, Bahrami said: This year, about 73 hectares have been added to the date palm area of ​​this city.
