Rice harvest begins in Astara
The director of Astara Agricultural Jihad said: the rice harvesting operation started from the paddy fields of the border city of Astara port.
Iraj Shiarkar pointed out: After six months of hard work, the first handful of paddy farmers in the city were harvested in Bala Mahalla of Virmoni village.
He pointed out that the rice harvest in the paddy fields of the city this year has started a few days earlier than last year, he continued: This harvest has been done manually and in the Manouchehr Ashjaei farm with an area under cultivation of 5000 square meters.
Shiarkar announced the type of harvested crop as Hashemi cultivar and added: considering that the average harvest of paddy per hectare is 4 to 5.4 tons, it is expected that more than 2 tons of rice paddy will be harvested from the farm.
He mentioned Hashemi, Deilman, Tarom, Hassan Sarai and Caspian, Gohar and SpeedRoad cultivars as the most used seeds in the city and emphasized: 3200 hectares of Astara agricultural lands are dedicated to rice cultivation, which is expected, so From the end of the harvest season in these lands, on average between 12 thousand to 14 thousand tons of paddy will be obtained.
According to ISNA, Astara city with a population of more than 86 thousand people is located in the west of Gilan province, 189 km from Rasht and adjacent to Ardabil province and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
