Rice cultivation in 1200 hectares of Jahrom lands
While the water situation in Jahrom city has reached a crisis level, the director of Jihad Agriculture of this city announced the cultivation of rice in 1200 hectares of lands of this city.
Jalal Behjoo announced that so far 83 hectares of agricultural lands of this city have been planted with rice and this amount will reach 1200 hectares by the end of July.
Meanwhile, in recent months, Jahrom city was declared as one of the critical cities in terms of drinking water and even agricultural water.
Jahrom city, which is known as one of the citrus production hubs in the south of the country, has faced serious water problems due to the drop in groundwater levels and its water wells have reached more than 400 meters.
Behjoo announced the amount of paddy production in Jahrom city as more than five tons and added: after milling 3400 kg per hectare, a ton of white rice is produced per hectare.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Jahrom city said: the central parts of Khafr and Simkan are the main cultivation areas of this crop, and currently the most cultivation is related to the excavation sector.
Behjoo, while stating that the cultivated cultivars are local champagne and amber champagne, added: the rice produced in this city is ranked second in the world in terms of quality and performance.
Rice cultivation requires the highest amount of water due to the flooding of this crop, and in recent months, officials have been trying to prevent the development of crops in need of water and lead farmers to improve the pattern of cultivation and alternative crops.
