Iraq is the second largest exporter of Iranian tea with the purchase of 183 tons of Iranian tea worth 237,500 GEL, and Kazakhstan is the second largest exporter of Iranian tea with the import of 112 tons of Iranian tea worth $ 126,09, said Seyed Ruhollah Latifi. Afghanistan with 69 tons and Germany with 37 tons, India with 35 tons, Tajikistan with 29 tons, Russia with 12 tons, Uzbekistan with 10 tons and Turkey 6 tons are in the next ranks of our country’s tea exports.

Regarding the amount of tea imports to the country, Latifi said: in the first quarter of this year, about 14 thousand 354 tons of tea worth 68 million and 890 thousand 794 dollars have been cleared from the country’s customs.

Secretary of the Customs Information Council added: Our country has imported tea from 14 countries, the largest volume of imports from India with more than 8,000 tons and a value of 36 million 812 thousand 269 dollars.

Latifi said Sri Lanka with more than $ 13 million and the United Arab Emirates with more than $ 11 million were parties to the deal to supply foreign tea.

The customs spokesman added: The statistics of the past years of the customs show that the annual import of tea in the country has been between 60,000 and 70,000 tons.

Explaining the importance of Iran’s position in the tea trade, Latifi said: Tea is a consumer product of all sections of society, tea is the most consumed beverage after water in the world and one of the most important value-added products in agriculture. Note that 75% of the world’s tea production and 60% of tea exports are owned by only 4 countries in the world.

Currently, the world’s tea trade accounts for about $ 42 billion a year, and about 50 countries around the world cultivate tea, and approximately 3 billion people in more than 160 countries are accustomed to drinking tea, he said. Russia alone accounts for 10% of the world’s tea consumption, and according to the habit and culture of tea in Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Commonwealth, the Persian Gulf countries and Iran’s neighbors, our country. Due to the existence of special free economic zones in different parts of the country and faster and easier access to the markets of neighboring countries, it can become a regional hub for processing and exporting tea.
China, Sri Lanka, Kenya and India are the largest exporters of this product and Russia, USA, UK, Egypt, Pakistan and Iran are the largest importers of tea in the world.

He added: China, India, Kenya and Sri Lanka are the major producers and exporters of tea in the world. Most of the products of China and India are consumed in their own countries and most of the tea produced is exported in Kenya and Sri Lanka.
