Iran is the largest grower of Damask rose in the world
The executor of the medicinal plants project of the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture said: Iran has the first place in the cultivation of Damask rose in the world.
Hussein Zeinali said: there are 8500 species of plants in the country, of which 2000 species belong to medicinal plants. Our country has 1728 species of exclusive medicinal plants and this shows that we can reach the first rank in the world in 10 plants with little attention to the medicinal plants section.
He added that this year we bought 71 tons of saffron, which will be offered for export on the stock exchange in the coming months: in the first nine months of this year, 186 tons of saffron worth $ 200 million were exported.
The executor of the medicinal plants project stated: Last year, 113,947 hectares of saffron were planted and 404 tons of saffron were produced.
He further referred to the situation of Damask rose and said: Damask rose producing countries in the world include Iran, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Morocco and Afghanistan. Iran also has the first level of Damask rose cultivation in the world and the highest cultivation level is related to Fars, Kerman, Isfahan and then Khorasan Razavi, East Azarbaijan, Markazi and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces.
According to Zeinali, the total area under cultivation of this plant is 23,990 hectares and 40 tons of Damask rose are produced in it. Last year, however, 24,90 hectares were under Damask rose cultivation, producing 40,853 tons of flowers.
