One of the steps that has been seriously considered in recent years in this field for water resources management is changing the cultivation pattern and moving towards planting crops with low water requirements and high profitability. Although sometimes we see the resistance of some farmers, but there are farmers who enter this pit by studying and in addition to reducing water consumption, they also earn a good income.
One of the products that has been seriously considered by farmers in this field, especially in Zanjan province and Abhar and Khorramdareh cities, is Damask rose cultivation. In addition, due to the fast fruiting, easy maintenance and maintenance of the garden, the lack of need to protect the crop on the tree, can bring more income to farmers.
Damask rose is one of the oldest and most important roses that is paid much attention and cultivated in most parts of Iran in order to produce perfume and rose and as a decorative plant. Extraction of rose from Damask rose is one of the important economic products of the country, so that every year rose is produced and its essential oil is exported abroad in addition to domestic consumption.
In this regard, the head of Khorramdareh Agricultural Jihad announced the harvest of 30 tons of Damask rose from the flower gardens of Khorramdareh city and says: more than 10 hectares of agricultural lands of Khorramdareh are dedicated to the cultivation of this crop, which harvests an average of 3 tons of Damask rose per hectare
Ali Mohammadi, referring to the support of farmers active in this field, continues: Due to the fact that Damask rose needs less water, its cultivation is promoted in Khorramdareh and loans are paid to applicants for this crop.
He states: Damask rose produced in Khorramdareh in the rose-making workshops of this city is turned into rose and in addition to consumption within the city, it is exported to other cities of the country.
The head of Abhar Jihad-e-Keshavarzi, while appreciating the cultivation of Damask rose in Abhar: In order to increase the added value of this product, Damask rose processing industries and production of essential oils and rose water should be set up so that the added value of this product is popular in Iranian society. And increase the world community.
Majid Qazvinian continues by stating that from Damask rose, very diverse and expensive products are obtained, including essential oils, which have a very high added value: In addition, all processed products of this flower are exported and have a very high exchange rate for the country.
He emphasizes: Damask rose low water requirement is one of the most important features of this plant that due to reduced agricultural water resources and reduced rainfall, its cultivation can replace many agricultural products with high water requirements.
The head of Abhar Agricultural Jihad, emphasizing that the climatic conditions of Abhar city are commensurate with the growth of Damask rose, states: this capacity should be used to develop the cultivation of this crop and increase employment in the agricultural sector.
