Harvest 9,000 tons of onions in khash
The director of Khash Agricultural Jihad said: with the efforts of the city’s farmers, about 9,000 tons of onions were harvested from 250 hectares of land in this area and offered to the consumer market.
Amanullah Toghi added: The onions that has been harvested is cultivated out of season and its species is different from its winter cultivation.
Onions is mentioned as a biennial plant, but due to its high consumption, this product is used as an annual product, said Toghi.
He emphasized: 750 people are directly involved in planting, holding and harvesting onions in Khash annually.
Toghi added: Onions in Khash city are grown in two seasons, summer and winter, whose summer cultivation is as seeds and direct, and their winter cultivation is indirect and using seedlings.
The director of agricultural jihad in Khash city continued: Fortunately, we are witnessing its good performance in both seasons.
Toghi continued: The type of onions that we see cultivated in Khash and in winter is Texas and this cultivar has a very good yield and its growth period is short.
He stated: Although the storage period of this product is shorter than the summer variety, but it has more performance.
The shell of this Texas cultivar is yellow and has a clear, white inner shell, Toghi said.
The director of the Khash Agricultural Jihad advised farmers to harvest this crop in a situation where 60 to 65 percent of their farm is changed and the yellow leaves of the onions are identified, and 20 to 25 percent of the leaves fall off.
The official added: Farmers are expected to keep onions in the field for five days from the time they are taken out of the soil to increase evaporation and storage capacity, so that evaporation and transpiration occur, and on the other hand, nutrients from the stem to the tubers. Moved.
He said: Edible onions have a high nutritional value due to their protein, vitamins, sugar and minerals.
Farmers sell onions khash at a price of five thousand rials per kilogram to the consumer market, but in the market this product sells for 10 to 15 thousand rials.
