Dehghan continued: The average onion production in the country was 37 and three tenths of a ton per hectare, which is more than 48 and a half tons per hectare in Fars province.

The director of agriculture of Jihad Agricultural Organization of Fars province added: In the crop year of 1399, 22 different onion cultivars were distributed for free for an area of ​​about 2,800 hectares.

He added: “The most distributed figures are Texas Early Grano, White Grano, Golden Spike and Cirrus and Bono.”

Dehghan said: “According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), onion is an employment-generating agricultural product and food security provider, which has 10 million people in the world and 21,000 Iranian farmers are engaged in the production of this product.”

He stated that Iran is the sixth largest producer of this product in the world with an annual production of 1.55 million tons of onions.

Dehghan named the onion producing cities in Fars province as Shiraz, Sepidan, Marvdasht, Kavar, Pasargad, Kazerun, Darab, Fasa, Lar, Jahrom and Arsanjan.

Dehghan emphasized: considering the amount of onion production in Fars province with 36 thousand tons, it was about 219 thousand and 400 tons, which in the crop year of 1399 was 13 thousand 963 tons of Persian onions with the currency of 4 thousand and 894 dollars abroad. Exported, which is only 4 and 6 tenths of a percent of the province’s onion production surplus.
