‌Mint is the best friend of the liver

Peppermint cleanses the liver and dilutes bile, said a senior agricultural expert, noting that peppermint is the liver’s best friend.

Ramin Tramshloo, stating that mint lowers blood cholesterol, added: to lower cholesterol, you should brew mint and drink it before meals.

He stated that peppermint is a herbaceous, two-vessel and perennial plant: the aerial parts of this plant are destroyed by the winter cold, but the underground organs (rhizomes and stolons) are alive and have a low activity. The thickness of mint root is 3 to 4 mm and it has several nodes where narrow roots grow and as a result small plants form around the mother base.

Garmsar Jihad-e-Keshavarzi expert, pointing out that the root of mint is not very deep and spreads sparsely on the soil surface, continued: Mint has a square stem and is purple due to the presence of anthocyanins. It also has a different length and depending on climatic conditions is between 30 to 100 cm and its upper parts have many branches.

The senior agricultural expert, stating that the leaves in this plant are 3 to 9 cm long and 1 to 3 cm wide, said: The shape of the leaves in this plant is wide and toothed and dark green on the sides. The veins are blue and in the leaf blade, have numerous branches. Also, mint flowers are purple in color and are seen as clusters of clusters on cycles. They are short-lived and leave the plant shortly after emergence.

He added: Mint fruit is a small capsule with a dark red color. The seeds of this plant have no vegetative value. For this reason, this plant is propagated by other methods than seeds.

Tramshello stated that peppermint has a pleasant smell and cool and spicy taste due to the presence of essential oil in its vegetative organs. The essential oil was first made in vegetative organs from the very beginning of plant growth and its synthesis rate increased with plant growth. And is made and stored in the cavities below the cuticle. The leaves contain 2 to 2.7 percent and the flowers 4 to 6 percent essential oil, but the stems lack essential oil. On average, the aerial parts contain one to 1.5 percent of essential oil.

He stated that the constituents of essential oil reach more than 20 types, the most important of which is menthol, which is extracted from young leaves, he said: The essential oil of flowers has less menthol and the most compound is mentofuran.

This Garmsar agricultural jihad expert, referring to the growing period of this plant, stated: The growing period of mint from growth to flowering is 80 to 100 days.
