Forecast of harvesting 41 tons of Damask rose leaves in Gilan

The director of horticulture affairs of Gilan Agricultural Jihad predicted: about 41 tons of Damask rose leaves will be harvested in this province this year.

Manouchehr Parsafar, director of horticulture affairs of Guilan Jihad Agricultural Organization, referring to the harvest of Damask rose in the gardens of this province, said: It is predicted that about 41 tons of Damask rose leaves worth 4,920 million Rials will be harvested this year.

He stated that the area under cultivation of this crop in Gilan province is more than 38 hectares and added: until the end of the sixth program, in 1,500 hectares of sloping lands in the province, a medicinal plant should be planted, of which Damask rose is a part.

The director of horticulture affairs of Gilan Agricultural Jihad continued: Development of sloping lands is one of the priority projects of the province, the credit of which is absorbed from the subsidy of seedlings and medicinal plants.

Parsafar stated that Damask rose is one of the oldest and most important types of roses that is cultivated in most parts of Iran for the production of perfume and rose water and as an ornamental plant. Domestic is also exported abroad.

He described the most important uses of Damask rose as the preparation of Rose water, essential oils and pharmaceutical industries: The main cities with Damask rose in Gilan province are Rudbar, Rudsar, Siahkal, Shaft and Rezvanshahr.
