A comprehensive plan of saffron and barberry was prepared
Dr. Abdullah Malafilabi, stating that among the 40 crops grown in Khorasan province, saffron is justified by a comparative advantage,
recommended the cultivation of barberry and saffron with other crops and continued:

The flood of saffron production in our country decreased by 80%, he added:
Unfortunately, in recent months, the price of saffron in Khorasan has fluctuated from two million to five million and 600 thousand tomans,
and now due to reduced saffron production in our country and global demand,
Saffron in our country is not less than four million and 600 thousand tomans.
Noting that the global demand for saffron is about 200 tons, he added:
This amount is increasing by 20% annually, and because some countries, such as Japan,
have done some work on the medicinal properties of saffron and its happiness, the global demand for this product is growing. Is increasing.
Referring to the fact that 65% of saffron produced in our country is exported,
Malafiaei said that 90% of production belongs to Khorasan province and said:
Global markets accept 10 to 15% inflation rate to increase the price of saffron, but fluctuate 100 to 200% of these prices.
It is not acceptable for them and there is a concern that very high fluctuations in the price of saffron will cause distrust of foreign customers
of our product and in the long run they will lose faith in the Iranian market and move to other markets.
He added:
Since saffron is a product that can be removed from the food basket, as it becomes more expensive,
European countries will eliminate this product and refuse to buy saffron.
This member of Khorasan Food Industry Research Institute, pointing out that barberry is a product resistant to dry conditions, added:
Because barberry is used in many by-products such as addiction quitting medicine, it can be included in the agricultural model,
but we must be careful about these export methods. More should be done and its products and medicinal uses should be introduced to the countries.
He pointed out that barberry and saffron have found their place in arid and semi-arid regions, adding:
Fortunately, the government has paid attention to the special properties of saffron and barberry and a comprehensive plan of saffron
and barberry has been prepared by the authorities.
