About 11000 tons of barberry are harvested this year
The head of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of South Khorasan Province, stating that barberry is a unique product of South Khorasan Province,
added: Unfortunately, this valuable product with many medicinal properties has remained unknown and oppressed until now.
Engineer Ali Akbar Tanaki stated that the area of barberry cultivation in South Khorasan is about 13,200 hectares and pointed
out that 98% of the country’s barberry is cultivated in this province, and said:
This is while the total area of barberry cultivation in our country is about 14 thousand It is 200 hectares.
He reminded that so far some measures have been taken for the barberry product in the country, and added:
Despite these measures, unfortunately, no appropriate measures have been taken to introduce this product in the country and in the world.
The official said that about 80 types of drugs have been discovered in the world from the roots, stems, leaves and especially barberry fruit.
This plant can be effective and useful for treating many important diseases in our country.
We hope that the articles of the National Barberry Festival will It should be published through the media so that the people of our country
become more familiar with this product and people who seek treatment for their disease target this plant.
He continued:
Fortunately, despite the 10-year drought in this province, the area under cultivation of this crop has increased during this period,
so that from about 5 thousand and 400 tons of production in 1374, we have now reached 13 thousand hectares,
but due to the occurrence Consecutive droughts The harvest of this crop has remained almost constant and in some places may have
decreased somewhat, but at present our forecast is that this year about 11,000 tons of barberry will be harvested from this province.
Regarding next year’s production, he said:
The more rainfall we have, the more hope there is for harvest, but given the climate we have in South Khorasan province and the drought
and violence that the nature of this province has, people are very lucky to grow this crop.
Tanaki continued:
In this regard, some crops have been provided to the people in the form of subsidies, so that during the last three years,
nearly 500,000 subsidized crops have been provided to farmers to increase the area under cultivation of this crop.
He described corruption as a major problem in barberry and said:
This product will be harvested in a short period of time, and if no solution is found for it and its consumer market is not determined,
the maintenance of this product will be difficult. In this regard, it is necessary to discuss industries. Follow the conversion.
He added:
Fortunately, during the last two years, appropriate measures have been taken in relation to the conversion industries of this product,
so that for 10,000 tons of the 12,000 tons of products we harvest, conversion industries have been planned and two factories,
each of which has a capacity There are 150,000 people under construction in Ghaen and Birjand, which is more than 60% physical progress.
He added: By exploiting these factories, the production of barberry juice, barberry jam, packaging of this product, etc., will be promoted, and now it has been promoted and set up in the form of small workshops, and by eliminating this major danger from the side. Their farmers continue to produce more calmly.
He continued: Last year, due to the lack of processing workshops, the price of barberry fell, but fortunately, this year we see reasonable prices in this product, so that compared to last year, prices have increased up to three times and now dry barberry is six thousand kilos per kilogram. They buy Tomans, while this price in dried barberry last year was between two to three thousand Tomans per kilo, and the price of fresh barberry has reached 200 to 300 Tomans per kilo now.
Tanaki further stated that a major percentage of this product is exported to countries such as Spain, adding: Recently, a good shipment of this product has been exported and it seems that countries around the world are more familiar with barberry in South Khorasan than ours.
In the end, he added: Although last year the barberry purchase agreement was not successful, but this action was an ointment for the wounds and losses of barberry farmers, but we hope that this year we will not need to buy the barberry agreement.
